How long has Murray State College been around?

Murray State College has a rich history in southern Oklahoma. The college opened its doors in 1908 as Murray State School of Agriculture. In 1924, the college expanded its curriculum to include college-level courses. The school granted its first associate degrees that same year. As curriculums evolved, the school went through name changes, finally becoming Murray State College in 1972.


Program Requirements and Course Details
Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree options are designed for students who want to enter a specialized workforce as soon as possible. Coursework involves time in laboratory and clinical settings specific to the degree program. It is often performed in real-world clinical settings. This is different than AA or AS degree programs involving attendance of lecture courses and general education classes that could later be applied toward a bachelor’s degree.

A degree in Applied Science prepares students for work in the following fields:

  • Business Management
  • Child Development

18–19 credit hours in general education courses
42 credits hours in program core and recommended electives courses
